Synchronized Swimming In The Sea

It’s like dancing in the ocean. Movements in synchronicity with the water – in part controlled by your body and part guided by the rhythm of the ocean. The music blends with the sounds of the waves, birds and planes. If this connection to nature intrigues you, join like-minded swimmers in our community tomorrow, Saturday, July 23rd on Beach 94th Street for the first of five synchro swimming workshops. Artist Ritta Ikonen is the organizer who conceptualized this project. She shares the details: Synchronized Sea Swimming Club is a series of five […]

Things To Do – Jamaica Bay

Park Ranger speaking about the Bat structures built in the wildlife preserve JPG

I often click “Interested” for Facebook events that pop up in my feed but I don’t often end up going. A few weeks back I saw an event at the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge – The Controversial Legacy of Robert Moses. I’m intrigued by Robert Moses and I’ve been meaning to walk the trails at the refuge this summer but hadn’t yet. Sunday morning rolled around and the house was a mess, but instead of doing the pile of dishes in the sink and sweeping the never-ending accumulation of cat […]

A few weeks ago I wrote about how my cat Lefty went missing. I had spoken to my neighbor Jill Lauri about his disappearance. Jill is an animal communicator and her words truly comforted me, easing my anxiety throughout the ordeal. After speaking with Jill, she went home and connected with Lefty. She took the time without being asked, and wrote me these beautiful words… “Lefty says that he is fine and exploring. He is not far away and plans to return home. Lefty says that initially a noise startled […]

Everyone who’s anyone on the peninsula will be at the Poseidon’s Prom on February 27th. The Poseidon’s Prom is a party to raise funds for the 2nd Annual Poseidon’s Parade held on the strip of boardwalk between 106 – 97th street (Rockaway Beach). I was blown away in September when I attended the inaugural event. I predict this year will be triple the mermaid mania! Take a look at pictures from last years parade here. Tickets to the Prom are $40.00 which include open bar (you can’t beat that!), appetizers, and hot beats by DJ […]
