Everyone Has An Ice Cream Story

Maryellis Bunn

The home stretch of winter seems like a silly time to write about ice cream but here we are. I was never that into ice cream, not even as a kid. But people change. I’m an ice cream person now. I’ll save my ice cream story for a future, 5-part column. Better yet, it will be included in my tell-all memoir, of which Katie Honan will edit, but she doesn’t know it yet. Ice Cream Memories

Sweet-treat-from-Mara’s-Ice-Cream-Parlor-1

I only eat sweets during the holidays when it’s right in front of my face (or rather, my mouth). But the other night, I had a very rare, intense craving for ice cream.  I kept debating internally if I should run out to see if Mara’s Ice Cream Parlor was still open. The Most Beautiful Shamrock Shake at Mara’s Ice Cream Parlor

Mara's Ice Cream Parlor-Shamrock-Shake Rockaway Beach

Last Saturday I went to McDonald’s to get shamrock shakes for my friend Dave’s party. He’s never had one! But when I arrived, at first they didn’t know what I was talking about and then they said the machine was broken! Can you believe that?? On Rockaway St. Patrick’s Day… it’s ludicrous! I ranted my frustrations on Facebook and Mark Healey responded, reminding me that Mara’s Ice Cream Parlor (the former Uncle Louie G’s) has them! After watching the parade shenanigans and visiting family uptown, I headed back, stopping at […]
