Sausage and Peppers

I may get a lot of heat for this “recipe”. My mom makes amazing sausage and peppers. I asked her how she made it and she said, you dump a bottled sauce into the crock pot, put in the sausages and put on high for 8 hours.

“Bottled sauce?” I thought, this would not get me my own food network show, Mom! So I didn’t listen to my mother and I tried my own way. I put some crushed tomatoes in with garlic and basil, some salt and pepper. I layered the bottom of the crock pot with onions. I figured, this would cook the sausages and the sauce.

It didn’t come out as good.

We usually have a bottle of sauce in our cabinet. Francesco Rinalidi’s “Sweet and Tasty Tomato”. Not your high end bottled sauce like Susanne had in her ziti. Bill likes the sweet sauce so I one day tried out this sauce with the sausage and peppers, the way my mother had original told me.

It came out amazing! I hate sweet sauce but from cooking it with the sausages, it turned out really good.

So here it is, my goof proof sausage and pepper recipe.

sausage and peppers

Ingredients:
2 packages Premio Sausages ( sweet or spicy work)
1 medium sized onion
1 green pepper
1 red pepper
1 24oz bottle of sauce ( Francesco Rinaldi Sweet and Tasty Tomato works well)

Directions:
Spray your crock pot with non-stick spray. Spread a layer of sauce on the bottom of the crock pot. Lay down the sausages in the sauce. Pour sauce on to cover the sausages. Add another layer of sausages and add remaining sauce. If there’s some sauce stuck to the sides add a little water to wash and add that to the crock pot.

Turn on high for 8-9 hours. You can leave it in longer, I sometimes leave it for about 12hours when I’m at work.

One hour before you plan to eat, slice the pepper and onions and add to the crock pot.
